Is there an age limit for the scholarship?

We accept applications from graduating high school seniors AND current university/college, community college, trade/vocational students (under 25 years old) looking to finish their secondary education.

If I do not receive the scholarship, can I apply the following year?

Yes! You can apply again as long as you are enrolled at a university/college, community college, trade or vocational school in the United States.

How can I support the New Beginnings Fund for Unhoused Youth?

Thank you for your interest in making student’s dreams come true! You can support the fund by making a financial or in-kind donation, which will go directly to NBF scholarship recipients. Please contact us with any questions or additional ideas for support.

Do I have to live in San Diego to receive the Scholarship?

Yes. For now, the New Beginnings Scholarship Fund is open to San Diego County residents only.

Do I have to prove that I am homeless to receive this scholarship?

No, housing status can be verified through school attendance/enrollment data. However, you MUST check the box in the “Demographics” section of the application indicating that you are “Currently unhoused or have previously been unhoused during high school (9th-12th)” to be matched with our scholarship.

Is this a one time scholarship or is it recurring?

Scholarship awards can be one-time or recurring. The scholarship may be renewable (depending on available funds) provided you maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, good citizenship, and continue to have financial need.

Is the application only available in English?

SDF’s Common Scholarship Application is available in English. If you need assistance completing the application, please contact us directly, attend an application workshop, or speak with your school counselor or advisor.
