Our Programs
Scholarships AND Support
At New Beginning Scholarship Fund, our programs are two-fold. We know that financial support is a HUGE gateway toward continuing education, but it doesn’t cover the whole need. We also partner with Be a Friend - Impact A Life to provide ongoing support and friendship to scholarship recipients to ensure they have access to a supportive relationship throughout their educational experience.
The Scholarship Fund
Through a partnership with The San Diego Foundation, our scholarship exists to offer financial support for students impacted by homelessness to have a chance at a brighter future.
Continuing education is an uphill battle for those who face instability in their daily lives, but it’s an important step toward building a career and life.
Our scholarship students are resilient, smart, dedicated, and committed to working toward something different.
Whether they’re working toward a certification, developing their trade skills, or earning a two or four year degree, we know that every little bit helps them on their journey and we do everything we can to champion them along the way.

Applications are due in March and Scholarships are awarded each year in June.
Once a student is awarded a scholarship, they’re eligible to enroll in the New Beginnings Scholars Program, where they’re offered ongoing support, goal setting, advocacy, and connection.

The Scholars Program
We know that financial support for continuing education is only the first step to success.
Ongoing support and advocacy can be the key difference between someone starting their onward educational journey, and actually finishing it.
Every student who receives a New Beginnings Scholarship is offered enrollment into the New Beginnings Scholars Program, where they receive access to materials and mentorship to assist them throughout their educational journey.
Through this program we strive to provide students with additional materials they may need to be successful like:
Computers
Calculators and school supplies
Internet access
Transportation passes
Meal/gift cards
Scholars Grants - to cover the cost of certain school-related activities
In addition to supplies, we partner with the Be A Friend - Impact A Life program to offer New Beginnings Scholars access to friendship and support from a local San Diego neighbor.
When scholars are paired with a Friend through the Be a Friend program, they have the opportunity to work alongside someone to set goals, ask important questions, and build meaningful relationships over time.
We recognize that there are more barriers to success for unhoused youth than we can begin to imagine.
That’s why, in addition to providing financial support, the Scholars Program aims to foster relationships with scholarship recipients, be available to them, listen, and offer additional support in the form of materials, supplies, and friendship.
Our hope is that this work will help them have the best possible chance at success.
